Last week, I made a new friend.
I like friends.
This is Fiona.

Picture

It is difficult to see her in the photo (she is tiny & quite shy) but Fiona is a dwarf ewe. This very petite (only 20lbs) little sheep had to undergo a BIG surgery a few months ago to amputate her rear back leg. Full grown & super sweet- this mini 3 legged sheep is the cutest! She gets along just fine!

But, Fiona needs some friends while she's going through rehabilitation. The bigger farm animals can kinda knock her over. As a petite wobbler myself, I understand!

Lucky me- I was contacted by the lovely Erica from Flat Broke Farm Animal Rescue
http://www.flatbrokefarm.net
She was looking for some poultry buddies for Fiona. Flat Broke Farm Animal Rescue takes in unwanted or displaced farm animals & provides them with a healthy, fun living environment along with medical care & training. The rehabilitated animals are then available for adoption to forever, loving homes.

I knew right away that my tiny Silkie & Polkie crew would be a great addition to Fiona's life. So last Saturday I drove to FBF & introduced Fiona to her new buddies- 2 Polkie & 3 Silkie chicks. Erica has a great set-up for them (including a chicken 'castle' so the chicks can have a place of their own if Fiona isn't feelin' the love) all warm & toasty, with lots of fresh air & sunshine.

This is a wonderful organization, and I encourage anyone reading this blog to check them out!

My dreaded birthday was last week. Groundhog Day.
I didn't want to leave all my
   precious animals, but I also
   wanted some SUNSHiNE! So
darling bf took me of Palm
Springs for the weekend to take my mind off of well, everything! It was very nice to sit by the pool & get room service. And kiss.

I found an amazing pet sitter to take care of my menagerie while we were away--she even likes chickens! (which was a crucial qualification for the job) So not only did she feed & care for 2 big dogs & 1 little dog, she fed all my grown chickens & provided constant care for all my baby chickies who need lots of TLC right now. I am so stoked to have someone help me out. Because Leo is old (and a total turd towards strangers) it took him a while to relax & understand she wasn't the enemy. Here's a photo she send on day 3...finally allowing her to sit with him.

It wasn't super sunny the entire trip- so unless I wanted to watch Superbowl shows I had to occupy my time. I finally got a chance to learn how to use my iPhone & my new Kindle. Yes, I know I am outdated.
Behold, my first instagram!
