This is my dear Cabbage. Despite the fact that she is almost completely blind, Cabbage has quite the attitude & gets along just fine with the flock In fact, Id say shes fairly high up in the "pecking order" even though she bumps into everyone. She has very crooked toes but it doesnt slow her down from scratching & making a fuss like the other girls. She has never been an exceptionally pretty Silkie, but we love her.- I adopted her & her sister Artichoke almost a year ago, they came from a hatchery, and neither of them ever feathered out very much. When Cabbage was around 8 months old I began to realize her vision was incredibly impaired!Artichoke passed away over the summer of 2013 & is buried in our garden. I was sad to lose her, but I am very happy to still have Cabbage around scratchin n peckin. Cabbage is funny looking, always seems to be dirty & doesnt like to be held-or cuddled, but she is a great chicken! Lays a beautiful white egg every other day and has NEVER gone broody. Going blind hasn't slowed her down at all. She is a determined girl & will always have a home with me!
