Every Partridge Silkie I have hatched has been exceptional-- they are all around great birds, and after a couple of years of consistently producing some quality partridges, I've discovered that not only are they beautiful, they also have very mellow, sweet personalities. I've also gotten into the habit of naming every partridge roo Kevin. Yes, KEVIN. No matter what.
The story of the Kevins goes like this:
In my first year of raising Silkies I had a very high hatch rate, and very healthy birds. I also had a pretty low ratio of males to females-- which is awesome. However, I had 1 partridge roo that I couldn't keep, even though he was a gentle little guy and only 10 weeks old or so. A woman contacted me who wanted to adopt him, and brought her young daughter with her. The rooster was to be her new pet. The little girl timidly came into the house where I had the roo waiting for her. She smiled & said she decided to call her pet "Kevin" -- an odd choice, but she picked up Kevin & that was that. Very happy.
I've had many Kevins-- here's a picture of the latest.
